Mr. Lansana Wonneh

Lansana, a Sierra Leonean is currently the Deputy Country Representative of UN Women in Nigeria, where he also serves as the Head of Programmes, overseeing areas such as governance and political participation, economic empowerment, women, peace and security, humanitarian action, and ending violence against women (EVAW) in the Country Office.

Before assuming this role, Lansana previously served as Deputy Country Representative of the UN Women Country Office in South Sudan (2015 to 2018), and he was the Women's Economic Empowerment Specialist in the same office in 2014.

Previously, Lansana worked for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and served in several capacities, including as Food Security / Vulnerability Specialist, Livelihood Adviser, and Coordinator of the UN and Government of Liberia Joint Programme on Food Security, and Nutrition. He also worked briefly for the FAO.

Before joining the United Nations, Lansana was Policy Adviser at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security (MAFFS) in Sierra Leone (2002-2004). He also worked as Agricultural Economist at the West Africa Rice Development Association (now the Africa Rice Centre) in Bouake, Cote d' Ivoire, and Rukupr, Sierra Leone, respectively, with a research focus on the economics of smallholder agricultural production, farming systems, participatory technology development; and gender analysis and dynamics in agricultural value-chains.

Lansana holds a master's degree in Agricultural and Rural Development, a Postgraduate Diploma in Policy Analysis, and a Bachelor's Degree in Economics.
